If your problem is more urgent please contact the surgery and a telephone triage appointment will be arranged. If the clinician feels you need to be seen, please be reassured that a face to face appointment will be made.

To reduce your chances of catching COVID-19 and reduce pressure on Barnard Castle Surgery during this busy time, appointments will be carried out over the phone, via video consultations or by e-consultations unless there is a clinical need for you to come into the surgery.

Due to the demand on phone lines you may receive a call from a withheld number. If you have called us, and we have informed you we will ring you back during the day, then please answer if it shows a number withheld.
Please follow the guidance on the 111 link and do not attend the surgery if you have a new continuous cough or high fever. The 111 link has been updated and is very useful - we do not know any more than 111 so please do not call the practice for information - use 111 online.
Use e-consultations for non-urgent matters including booking appointments instead of calling.
Order your prescriptions on line or via the NHS App - this will help keep the phone lines free for the GPs to call patients.
If you need to order your prescription by telephone, please dial 01833 690424. The ordering line is open daily from 1.30pm - 5.15pm. Please do not call the appointment line to place your order.
Make sure you have a nominated pharmacy so you do not need to come to the surgery to collect your prescription.
Process for Patients Collecting Medication
- Patient arrives at practice and waits at Main Porch to be greeted by a member of Staff.
- Staff Member will take your Name and Address and retrieve your medication from within the surgery.
- Your medication will be deposited on the Table provided. At this time you will not be required to sign for your medication.
- Please ensure you stand back 2 metres from the person in front and the person behind.
- If you pay for your medication please have the correct payment ready.
- Where possible please can you help by collecting medication for your friends, family and neighbours this helps reduce contact for everyone.
The GP or nurse may decide you need a video consultation - these are really easy to use if you have a smartphone - watch the youtube below to see what it entails
Important information about the coronavirus (COVID-19)
Stay at home for 7 days if you have any of:
- a high temperature
- a new continuous cough
- loss of smell or taste
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.
You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.
Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:
- you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
- your condition gets worse
- your symptoms do not get better after 7 days
Only call 111 if you cannot get help online.

Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:
- Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
- Avoid close contact with people who are unwell

The main entrance allows easy access for the disabled including those in wheelchairs. The surgery also has appropriate toilet facilities. In the event of any difficulties please contact a member of staff.
